Meet Jaye Sheldon, Director of Music

You can't begin to capture this soprano's gifts, energy or effervescence on paper -- but we can share a little of her background. Jaye works with our accompaniests and Rev. Lorriane to select music for our worship services, helps plan special services and directs our Celebration Choir.

Q. What do you want people to know about the music ministry at King of Peace?

JS. The most important aspect of the music ministry is fellowship and fostering a spirit of cooperation as we learn and grow together musically and spiritually.

Q. What do you like most about our church?

JS. I am moved at every worship service at King of Peace, not only because my partner and I can worship together openly, but also because of the sense of love and freedom that I feel amongst all the members of the congregation.

Q. Share a little about your background...

JS. I am from upstate New York, and have spent most of my life there, except for a college semester in Venice, Italy. I grew up a few miles from Glimmerglass Opera in Coopestown, NY, where I first fell in love with music and theater. I graduated from Colgate University, where I majored in Music and minored in Theater. I hold a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University. Before moving to Florida, I lived in Syracuse for the past 11 years, serving as Voice Faculty at St. Lawrence University, and as Music Director at St. Margaret's Catholic Church.

Q. Have any hobbies, or ways you like to spend your time?

JS. I compete in a fringe sport called "interpretive freestyle canoeing." It's paddling to music. There are routines and judges, just like in figure skating. I am also trying to learn to play the accordion, and I enjoy spending time on the beach with Rachel and our dog, Sophie.
